οὐ πανταχοῦ, ἀδελφοί, προσφέρονται θυσίαι ἐνδελεχισμοῦ ἢ εὐχῶν ἢ περὶ ἁμαρτίας καὶ πλημμελείας, ἀλλʼ ἢ ἐν Ἱερουσαλὴμ μόνῃ· κἀκεῖ δὲ οὐκ ἐν παντὶ τόπῳ προσφέρεται, ἀλλʼ ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ ναοῦ πρὸς τὸ θυσιαστήριον, μωμοσκοπηθὲν τὸ προσφερόμενον διὰ τοῦ ἀρχιερέως καὶ τῶν προειρημένων λειτουργῶν.

## English translation (Claude)

Not everywhere, brothers, are the daily sacrifices offered, or the vow offerings, or the sin and trespass offerings, but only in Jerusalem; and even there they are not offered in every place, but before the sanctuary at the altar, after what is offered has been inspected for blemishes by the high priest and the ministers already mentioned.

## Translation notes

- The present tense speaks as if the temple still stood. Whether this means the letter was written before AD 70 is debated; most date it ca. 96, and Josephus also describes the temple in the present tense after its fall.
